That morning, I made a latte in my small apartment. It was relaxing when suddenly my phone began to ring. My mom had called to invite me to a family breakfast at The Breakfast Club. My cousin Vanessa was in town, and I wouldn’t miss a chance to visit my favorite spot in Moscow.

After a quick shower, I threw on my red-and-white floral shirt, tan shorts, and Vans. The walk downtown was quick, past the Japanese lady’s lush garden, the old city library, and through the bustling farmer’s market. By the time I reached Main Street, my sister was waiting outside the café with my mom and Vanessa.

We chatted briefly about the wait time, and then time seemed to freeze. My eyes locked onto the most beautiful girl I had ever seen. Light blue eyes, confident and intimidating demeaners, she was mesmerizing.

Before I could compose myself, she stopped in front of us. My mom turned and introduced her.
“Kids, this is Freja. She’s the Danish exchange student studying here this semester.”

Freja’s eyes met mine, and in that moment, I knew my world was about to change.
